Royal 50 Virtual Challenges

Picture
Head out on the Royal Gorge Trails with Trailforks or STRAVA and earn your badges! Join the challenge for free or register online to earn a commemorative t-shirt and swag bag. The challenge opens on September 1st and ends on October 31st.

YOU MUST REGISTER BY OCTOBER 15TH TO EARN SWAG AND GET A RAD T-SHIRT OR HOODIE.

The jewel of the Royal Gorge Region’s trail system – the Royal Gorge Trails – is a stunning system of singletrack trail. Trails range from green to black and flowy to technical. While the Royal 50 / Gorgeous 25 Mountain Bike Races will not be held in-person this year, you can now challenge yourself to complete 50 or 25 miles on this incredible terrain. With a significant amount of elevation gain, you’ll have the opportunity to climb through the hills surrounding the north rim of the famed Royal Gorge over the Arkansas River. Catch views (and your breath) along 20 available miles of unique singletrack. Create your own route, ride laps on your favorite trails, or check out our website at royal50.com for suggested routes.

There are five badges associated with this challenge: 50-mile in 1-day, 50-mile in 1-month, 25-mile in 1 day, 25-mile in 1 month, youth 5-mile (one-day) challenge. Grab the badges for personal achievement, or sign up online to also earn a commemorative t-shirt and swag from Fremont Adventure Recreation.

FAQ's

Picture
How do I participate?
Get out and ride 25 or 50 miles! The digital Trailforks badges are available for free. Anyone can participate! If you'd like to support FAR, earn sweet swag (including a commemorative tee), and see yourself listed as a participant on the official event leaderboard, you'll need to register via the event registration page. The cost is $45 for your first event and $25 for every additional category. There are 4 adult categories and one youth (12 and under) category.

Do I have to use Trailforks and / or Strava?
In order to track your mileage and start / finish dates, you'll need to use a tracking app. We recommend Trailforks or STRAVA. Trailforks is free to use in your home area and has the added bonus of being a great method of finding and navigating new trails. For just $20 per year, you can upgrade to the 'pro' version and have the ability to see and track rides across the globe. If you'd rather use Strava, you can use the free version to upload the challenge results. Strava will sync your rides to Trailforks automatically by changing the settings.
Using STRAVA has two advantages: it syncs to both our registration platform and to Trailforks, so you can earn the online 'badges' and also report your results easily.

How do I show that I've completed the challenges?
  1. Record your ride using a track app. We recommend Trailforks or Strava.
  2. Upload your results. Head to the registration website, click 'leaderboard', and follow the instructions. If you've recorded your ride using STRAVA, you can upload those results directly. Otherwise, you can manually enter your results from another app.

Can I compete as a team?
We encourage safe riding together, but there are no special categories or awards for team achievement.

What if I want to earn more than one digital badge? Or more than one shirt?
You can earn all the badges you'd like! If you'd like to earn more than one shirt / swag bag, however, you'll need to register for each category on our registration site. The cost is $45 for the first category and $25 for each additional category.

Are there prizes for overall achievement?
Please keep in mind that these challenges are for FUN only. Your achievements do not count toward USAC or other related totals. We'll be doling out prizes along the way for challenges and random achievements.

Royal 5? What's that?
Do you know a little shredder who would benefit from doing a 5-mile challenge? Bring 'em along! Do laps on S'mores, hit up some green trails, or find a route that suits their growing skill level. We'll send them a t-shirt and swag bag, too! Cost for youth (12 and under) to register for the official challenge is just $15.

Do my miles have to be at the Royal Gorge Park?
Nope. If you're FAR away (pun intended), you can join in on the 25 or 50-mile challenge from wherever you ride. Simply record your ride and upload the results manually to the registration page.

If you DO manage to ride the heart-thumping hills of the Gorge, we'll throw a special, super-cool sticker in your swag bag. It's our way of saying, "Yeah, we know that was tough. But you did it!" While we can't welcome you in person to the Royal Gorge Trails, we want you to head out and enjoy them if possible. While you're in the area, please be sure to hit up some of our sponsor locations for a post-race beer, bagel, or bike tuneup.

Is there a prescribed route?
No. While we're happy to suggest some beginner, intermediate, and advanced rides (see our 'Routes' page - coming soon), the mileage is up to you. As noted in the badges, you can take the 1-day challenge for either distance (25 or 50), or give yourself a month to complete the total.

Special Thanks!

The Royal 50 would not be possible without the support of our event committee, sponsors, and volunteers. THANKS to everyone who makes The Royal 50 possible and for supporting the continued growth of outdoor recreation in Fremont County!
